The Applied Physics program provides students with advanced, specialized knowledge and far-ranging application skills through four majors: Fundamental Physics, in which students conduct research on astrophysics, such as explosive stellar phenomena, condensed matter physics theory, and physics education; Condensed Matter Physics, in which students conduct research on the properties of high-function molecular aggregates, magnetic substances, superconductors, alloys, and other materials; Nanophysics, in which students conduct research on the properties of semiconductors and fine electronic materials and into biophysics based on nanoscale structures; and Physical Measurement and Data Analysis, in which students conduct research on the measurement, observation, and data analysis of properties by using laser light, such as laser spectroscopy, gravitational wave physics and astronomy, and an optical lattice clock.
