Graduate School of Economics

The Graduate School of Economics strives to prepare students to contribute not only to resolving economic issues, but also to solving various real-world problems in a rational manner while advancing academic knowledge.

To this end, the program accepts graduate students from both within Japan and abroad, focusing on the acquisition of specialized knowledge in economics and the development of research capabilities.

Economics (Master’s and Doctoral Degree Programs)

In the master’s degree program, students acquire specialized knowledge in scientific economics and master basic research techniques through coursework and actual research.

There are five groups of subjects: History of Economics, Economic Theory, Applied Economics and Economic Policy, Quantitative and Statistical Economics, and Behavioral Economics.

Accordingly, students are able to select their specialty and pursue a specialized education.

The doctoral degree program, whose goal is to equip students with advanced research expertise essential for independent researchers while also preparing them to become educators capable of passing on this knowledge to future generations, offers a wellbalanced curriculum that includes not only deductive theoretical work but also inductive empirical research.

Graduate students define their own research topics based on their academic progress to date and conduct research with the aim of publishing in academic journals.

The program is supported by a number of faculty members with internationally recognized research achievements, providing students the opportunity to learn rigorous scientific research methodologies in economics under their guidance.
