In the field of German language, research guidance includes both the basic area of syntax and historical sociolinguistics.

In the field of German literature, students study a diverse range of subject matter that spans eras and genres, including the works about Faust starting from the sixteenth century; Goethe and Grimm from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; K.

Krauss from the end of the nineteenth century; and German literature by twentieth-century Jewish authors.
