Department of English

The Department of English strives to foster the development of internationally-minded graduates with a broad general education and deep, specialized knowledge so that they can contribute to global society.

To that end, it relies on a curriculum designed to foster advanced communication ability based on a balanced development of the four core English skills (speaking, listening, writing, and reading).

Specific fields of specialization include English linguistics, speech and communication studies, British culture and literature, and American culture and literature.

In addition to taking courses such as cultural subjects and a second foreign language, students have opportunities to master skills that will allow them to understand other cultures, collect and analyze information, and communicate the results of that process to others.

Through this curriculum, the Department seeks to prepare students to make a contribution while working with others toward solving the problems faced by international and regional society.
