Department of East Asian Studies

The Department of East Asian Studies strives to meet the needs of the regional society in which the University is located as well as of the people who live there by preparing students to become citizens with language skills that will allow them to thrive, primarily in the East Asian region and with insight into the region.

To that end, it offers two courses that students can choose so that they can master basic academic skills and advanced research skills.

The Chinese Course offers opportunities to study the linguistic culture and regional characteristics of China, while the Korean Course offers opportunities to study the linguistic culture and regional characteristics of Korea.

Students in both courses, which are designed to prepare them to embrace changes in regional society, to push forward international exchange in partnership with others in the region, and to maintain those attitudes after graduation, undertake a thorough study of how to use the language of the region they've chosen and how to conduct regional research.
