Fukuoka University Chikushi Hospital was founded in July 1985, and it reopened in May 2013 with 310 licensed beds. (Today, the hospital has twenty-four departments.) The hospital has been designated a regional medicine support hospital and a regional cancer treatment hospital, and it works actively to improve community healthcare and cancer treatment. In addition, as part of an ongoing effort to enhance at-home care, the hospital established an At-Home Support Office. As a university hospital that is intimately connected to the Chikushi region where it is located, the hospital strives to support regional medicine and to provide a high level of functionality and healthcare.

Philosophy
Caring Medicine
We strive to offer emergency care that is intimately connected to the region, to provide high-quality healthcare and information as a university hospital, and to inspire trust and peace of mind on the part of local residents.
That approach derives from our philosophy of “medicine based on humanity.” We value heartfelt connections and strive to put into practice our patient-centric ideal of “caring medicine.”
Basic Policies
- Providing patient-centric healthcare based on safety, peace of mind, and thoughtfulness
- Providing advanced, pioneering medicine as a university hospital
- Communicating useful information and contributing to regional medicine as a regional medicine support hospital and as a regional cancer treatment hospital
- Practicing open, high-quality, team-based medicine through collaboration among numerous professionals
- Fostering the development of medical professionals who respect patient dignity and combine a high ethical standard with a kind approach
A Regional Medicine Support Hospital
As the first university hospital to be certified as a regional medicine support hospital, we work with regional medical facilities and functions to divide responsibilities and offer regionally integrated healthcare. We also work to enhance our educational and research functions in order to improve the standard of care in the region.
A Regional Cancer Treatment Hospital
We work with Fukuoka University Hospital, the groupʼs designated regional cancer treatment collaboration facility, to improve the quality of cancer treatment available in the Chikushi region. Thanks to these activities, we were designated a regional cancer treatment hospital by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in April 2016.
A Certified Emergency-Care Hospital
As a certified emergency-care hospital, we offer emergency healthcare twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. In particular, our internal medicine and trauma departments provide secondary emergency care on a rotating basis during public holidays and weekday nighttime hours. Additionally, as an open hospital, we take an open approach to patient beds by working with physicians from the prefectureʼs medical association and participating in joint care and instruction.
A Key Hospital that Offers Emergency Pediatric Care
As a key hospital that offers emergency pediatric care, we have pediatricians assigned from the medical association work with our own pediatricians on a rotating basis during weekday nighttime hours to provide emergency care. This approach has been praised by local government and residents for offering support for emergency care for children in the area, and we will continue to enhance it going forward.
