Wakaba High School

In keeping with its school motto of “Strength, Justice, and Excellence,” Wakaba High School values each and every student and strives to instill a deep, lifelong love of learning.

Wakaba High School, which is affiliated with Fukuoka University, had amassed 116 years of history and tradition as a girls high school when it welcomed the first male students since its founding in April 2019, opening a new chapter in its history as a coeducational high school with three reorganized courses: the Super Preparatory Course, the Global Course, and the Integrated High School-University Course.

In the schoolʼs “Fukudai-Wakaba” integrated high school and university program, which pioneered reforms to the traditional connection between high schools and universities, students compile a Wakaba Portfolio that charts their study in order to foster basic academic skills and the ability to apply them, undertake topical research, and participate in lectures offered by Fukuoka University, among other initiatives. In addition to helping students enjoy broadbased study by actively participating in extracurricular activities, fostering their ability to look toward the future, and cultivating an awareness of the goal of continuing their studies on the university level, the program strives to drive personal growth.

The schoolʼs educational philosophy involves preparing students to contribute to society through their ability to think creatively and communicate effectively, endowing them with noble dignity and solid character, and training them to recognize one another and to think for themselves, make decisions, and act. It implements an ideal educational approach that integrates high school and university components as a high school thatʼs affiliated with Fukuoka University with the goal of valuing each and every student and instilling a deep, lifelong love of learning.
