A Statement from the President of Fukuoka University

Dear Friends:
We are all facing the very harsh reality that Russian forces have invaded Ukraine. All of us at Fukuoka University send our heartfelt wishes for peace to Ukrainian people all over the world. We know that nothing good can come from suppression by force. At present, we should be focusing our attention on the COVID-19 pandemic, not on suppression by the Russian military nor the possibility of World War Ⅲ. On behalf of Fukuoka University, I offer our support to anyone who would like to join our academic community, regardless of whether they are inside or outside of our country, whether they are Russian or Ukrainian. We believe that Putin should completely withdraw from Ukraine. We can only pray that the people of Ukraine will soon have their lives return to normal. It is our sincerest hope that they can enjoy once again peace and quiet in their original state.

学長声明 ～命の大切さを考える～
私たちは、現在、ロシア軍がウクライナを侵攻しているという大変厳しい現実に直面しています。全ての人が、ウクライナの方々の平和を心から願っています。武力による抑圧からは何も得られないのです。
ロシア軍による抑圧や、ややもすると“第三次世界大戦”が勃発するようなことにではなく、「命の大切さ」にこそ注意を向けるべきです。なぜなら、私たちはこの2年間、COVID-19パンデミックによって「命の大切さ」を思い知らされてきたのですから。
福岡大学は、国内外、ロシア人、ウクライナ人を問わず、本学で学びたい、研究したいと思う方々に門戸を開いています。
ロシアは、ウクライナから完全撤退すべきであると考えます。
ウクライナの方々が一日も早く元の生活に戻れるよう、また、以前の平和な状態に戻れるよう行動したく思います。
