Scholorship Programs

We offer a variety of scholarships, and many students also take advantage of scholarship programs from local governments and privatesector scholarship organizations. The University recommends students for scholarships from the Japan Student Services Organization and offers its own scholarship programs. Half of our students receive some form of the scholarships mentioned above.

Fukuoka University Special Scholar Program

Eligible students: Undergraduates in their second or later year of study

This program recognizes talented students who exhibit an exceptional academic record and excellence in their daily activities, whom we term Special Scholars. Special Scholars receive a scholarship of 300,000 yen. About 200 Special Scholars are chosen from all undergraduate faculties.

Japan Student Services Organization: Type1Scholarship

Particularly exceptional students who would have significant difficulty continuing their studies for economic reasons. Applicants must satisfy separate loan requirements (academic ability, financial need, character).

Japan Student Services Organization: Type 2 Scholarship

Exceptional students who would have difficulty continuing their studies for economic reasons. Applicants must satisfy separate loan requirements (that are less strict than those for the Type 1 Scholarship).

Japan Student Services Organization: Grant Scholarship

This program provides assistance for students with economic hardship. Students who are eligible for this new, grant-based program can apply to the University to receive a tuition reduction of up to about 700,000 yen per year.

Fukuoka University Scholarships (undergraduate)

Fukuoka University Extracurricular Activities Grant Scholarship

This program is offered to assist students who exhibit extremely unusual ability and who have a record of excellence in an extracurricular activity. (Except activities organized through the Student Union or as part of coursework)

Fukuoka University Future Support Fund Grant Scholarship

This program provides assistance to students with financial hardship, regardless of their level of scholastic motivation and ability. As a general rule, this scholarship is intended for those who have difficulty studying due to sudden changes in their household budget due to unemployment, death, or other reasons.

Fukuoka University Yushinkai Scholarship (Loan)

Students in their final year of study who expect to graduate, have never repeated a year, and who have fewer than 20 credits to earn before meeting graduation requirements.

Takada Legal Training Fund Scholarship

This program was created through a gift by Keiichi Takada, a professor emeritus at the University, in order to train talented legal professionals who can realize social justice and contribute to society.

Fukuoka University Scholarship Program for Self-supporting International students

This program seeks to foster growth and development of exceptional international students with economic hardship who have demonstrated academic excellence while boosting their academic motivation. Self-supported international students who are in Japan on a “foreign study” visa.

Fukuoka University Scholarship Incentive Program for International Undergraduate Students from Specified Asian Regions

This program is designed to foster the growth and development of deserving undergraduate international students from Asian countries (other than East Asia) with the potential to make an international contribution with regard to relations with Japan in the future. Self-supported international students who are in Japan on a “foreign study” visa.
