Greetings

With thirty-one departments across nine undergraduate faculties and thirty-four programs offered by 10 graduate schools, Fukuoka University has developed as one of western Japan's leading private universities since its founding in 1934 by pursuing its founding philosophy and implementing a series of principles that guide its educational and research programs.

To contribute to the development of industry and the broader economy on the national and regional level, enhance social welfare, and create culture, the University pursues a social mission in four key areas: education, research, medicine, and community service. At the same time, it serves as a place where individuals gain wisdom that will empower them to flourish no matter their circumstances and where students gain lifelong friends through their studies. The University formulates growth strategies from a broad perspective to ensure it can play that role while accomplishing its social mission, and faculty members and staff work together to implement those strategies.

As we prepare to mark the 100th anniversary of our founding in 2034 and beyond, educational reform will be an especially prominent focus. Today, humankind faces numerous novel challenges, including poverty, war, climate change, and infectious disease. Our focus on educational reform reflects our belief that training human resources to work actively to solve these challenges is the University's mission.
