Fukuoka University Hospital

The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1972, and the Hospital opened in August 1973. Construction of a new hospital building was completed in 2023, when we marked our 50th year. In addition, the extension of the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line to Hakata Station in March has made the facility considerably easier to get to, reducing travel times to 20 minutes.

The Hospital includes the Cancer Center, the Cerebral Embolism Center, the Center for Advanced Technology and Robotic Surgery, and other medical centers, with twenty-three departments offering team-based, multi-disciplinary medical treatment. The General Practice Department and Emergency Center work closely with all departments and external medical facilities to provide emergency services to the region around the clock, 365 days a year.

Philosophy

Caring Medicine

  • Providing patient-focused medicine that meets societyʼs needs
  • Operating a hospital that provides leadership in advanced, pioneering treatments
  • Serving as a core medical center that is open to its region
  • Fostering the development of the medical professionals society needs
  • Communicating health-related information

An Advanced Treatment Hospital

In addition to being certified as an advanced treatment hospital providing cutting-edge medical care, the hospital was recently assessed by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care (Hospital Function Assessment, Third Generation, Ver. 1.0). As a result, its certification was renewed on February 7, 2020.

Going forward, Fukuoka University Hospital will continue to work to enhance and improve its services so that it can provide safe, high-quality care in an efficient manner based on patientsʼ needs and in accordance with its philosophy of providing caring medicine.

Contributing to Medicine in the Region

It goes without saying that hospitals play an important role for patients who are ill, but health maintenance and management day in and day out are important in ensuring people can lead pleasant lives. The hospitalʼs new treatment wing provides robust support for physical therapy and health maintenance through a medical auditorium and medical fitness center. It also holds cancer and other seminars as well as lectures that are open to the public in order to help the people of the region maintain their health, to provide medical information, and to foster exchanges and study.

We believe that enriching regional medicine and creating communities in which people can live with peace of mind is the best way to contribute to healthcare in the region.

A New Hospital to Be Passed on to the Next Generation

A new main building, which is expected to serve as a regional core medical facility, is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2023.The structure, which will have one belowground and 12 aboveground stories, will include a heliport. Under the slogan “Making a Future Hospital,” the hospital will make proactive use of the advanced medical facilities and provide pioneering medical care safely and securely using artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Furthermore, the hospital will pursue the functional enhancement of patient amenities and make improvements in the work environment of its staff.
